Participating in competitions can be beneficial for every illustrator, regardless of whether they win or lose. Engaging in these events offers unique opportunities for growth and exposure in the creative field.
the first illustration competition I ever entered. I spent days perfecting my piece, choosing every color and line with care. When I submitted it, my hands shook with excitement and fear. What if I wasn’t good enough? What if no one liked it? When the results came, I didn’t win. But that experience changed the way I approach my art forever.”
Many illustrators avoid competitions because:
Fear of Rejection: What if my art isn’t appreciated?
Self-Doubt: I’m not experienced enough to compete.
Time Pressure: I’ll spend hours creating something and get nothing in return.
In a recent illustration contest, the theme was creative bridge .I had never drawn symbols for fabric together before. The challenge forced me to experiment with textures and shading, and I ended up learning new techniques I still use today in my fashion sketches.
The rhythm of the north.
Competitions go beyond trophies; they foster growth, learning, and creativity. Each submission helps you connect with the art community. Don’t let the fear of losing hold you back—your journey as an illustrator is more valuable than any award.

The Nigerian fashion sector is important to the nation’s economy and plays a crucial cultural role. Nigerians are renowned worldwide for their eye-catching, frequently Ankara-made casual attire. formal and traditional attire are also often seen throughout the nation. Casual attire is commonly worn but formal and traditional styles are also worn depending on the occasion. Clothing incorporates a variety of colors, fabrics, and embellishments (often beads). Types of Fashion Styles in Nigeria in Cultures.
SOUTHWEST NIGERIA
Fashion in this part of the country is always evolving and finding new ways to use its staples. It is well-known for clothes like agbada, gele, iro , and buba, and fabrics like aso oke and adire. The aso oke is a hand-woven cloth while the adire is made by tie and dye!
Worn by women, the iro and buba is a wrapper with a loose blouse usually worn with the gele on the head. The agbada is a loose robe (similar to the baban riga) worn by men over a matching inner set of a shirt and trousers. Traditional clothing from this region is very detailed and intricate with an emphasis on sets containing complementing pieces.
SOUTHEAST NIGERIA
the Igbo traditional attire is called Isiagu? Isi-Agu, which means lion’s head in Igbo, is a pullover shirt made with fabric that has lion heads printed on it. Traditionally, it is given to a man with a chieftaincy title and is usually paired with a red or leopard print cap.
Women wear form-fitting clothes in either isiagu or Ankara that accentuate their figures through countless styles. For big occasions, they are adorned in statement jewelry.
A popular fashion accessory is called the nza, or horsetail, and most people now use it at weddings, funerals, and dances. Like most Nigerian fashion, the fashion from this part of the country is always colorful and bold!

My time begins with “ what drives a beginner to create something out of nothing as a pattern of art to reveal your talents and purpose “
My journey
It begins, with my first drawing with the use of pencils and a sheet of paper, I draw beautiful portraits of pictures using ordinary pencils as I draw the piece and filled it with highlights and shadows of a beautiful portrait as an artist. I was so happy with how the art come out as traditional art.
One day, I saw a beautiful simple art of illustration on Instagram that inspired me to get into an illustration of pictures in character flats. As I want to try out the technique, I installed the app on my phone to try out and see the outcome. I start to work on what I wanted for the character flat using a picture, I sketch it but it turn out terrible at first.
So I keep on practicing and practicing in some amount of time I improved. I decided to open an Instagram account to post my drawings as a gallery to store them. I suddenly stopped illustrating and moved into writing poetry to try something new.I also have a passion for writing poetry During high school.
One of my favorite poems is called “ The Mission of Art” It means a statement “It describes the artistic vision or purpose of the creative journey by depicting goals through inspiration and innovation towards skills opportunities”. THE MISSION OF ART
The mission of art,
Engage with our most primal, Selve to inflame
our passion.
To provoke our insights,
To inspire us,
To acknowledge us,
To reveal our true talent and identity.
To paint with imagination.
Varieties of different colors,
Drops on the white canvas;
Paint brushes going clockwise,
To bring out our skills, ideas, and motivation.
To create certain creativity.
With the good aspiration to reflect virtuoso inspirations,
To activate people with great knowledge.
The vision of line light to
creativity;
Shining passion with instincts,
To acknowledge comprehensive ideas of achieving the art of life.
I wrote a lot of poetry regarding mental health using pictures and bringing up the title of the poem, I analyzed it according to images to give it meaning, and I won an award for poetry through an online competition. Poetry played an important role in part of my life.
“ life is about taking chances, trying new things, learning new things, making mistakes, experiencing and learning from it every day “.
Eventually, I was scrolling down my Instagram page, and I saw a beautiful and captivating style of fashion illustration. It is what inspired me to start illustrating. I started watching tutorials to teach myself. I quickly installed the app Procreate to try it.
I sketched a simple dress using the same technique in the video.
I illustrate without a body pose, I selected a fabric for the dress, and it came out well as a beginner, I was so proud of myself.
This is what the dress looked like, I love it😍🥰.
I keep on trying and trying till I reach a certain point where my fashion illustrations have nearly improved in many ways as I share my journey in a short experience.
I create something out of nothing as a pattern or piece of art,
As I have a collection of ideas in my head, it drives me with the ability to brainstorm, ideas of illustration. A typical day starts with tending to develop some inspiration for fashion using Pinterest. Exploring
fashion and understanding it represents different styles, cultures, and traditions.
My process of fashion illustration.
As a result of leaving traditional art to digital art.
I am now working more and more with digital technique because it is much faster than traditional ones. you can create your art anytime, anywhere.
The process
I will start by tapping my drawing app and starting a new document using the “ + “ button, I tap on the square, and then the white canvas appears.
Import my body pose, and drag the dots to resize my image to enlarge it to fit the screen.
Creating a new layer to select my sketching tool, I like fashion pencil because it is very thin and easy to use.
I like to start my design first with a pencil to reduce the opacity before moving to the main sketch.
I redrew everything without any mistakes.
I select a color for clipping mask my fabric.
I add the fabric.
I add shadow and highlight to bring out the fashion outfit in a realistic way.
My goals
My goal is to transform concepts for upcoming fashion brands, products, Jewelries, perfume, photo portraits, and clients to represent various products and designs. my goal experience is to take their brand to the next level.
I’m here to assist you in bringing your ideas and design vision through artistic skill as a self-taught illustrator.
My skills focus on a vision of the sense of color, texture, perspective of lines, and shading is important. For personal style and creativity of understanding the means of fashion.
In the movie ‘’ THE HIDEEN FIGURES’’ is a drama / history ,American biographical film directed and written by Theodore Melfi. The inspiring story of the three African – American women working at NASA program in the early 1960s during space race. The movie is about three female that play a role in creating ideas and advancement of technology. it portrays the achievement and struggle faced by these brilliant strong women In a racial segregated society.
In this movie, I genuinely found myself moved by their outstanding performance which displayed emotions by Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson. The three courageous women break down the racial and gender barriers. I am filled with mix feelings. The darkness of racism in hidden figures of how black women experience today’s society . It focuses on the bold, brilliant, and brave protagonist at its core. There is one particularly scene that was so touching, when Katherine was promoted temporary. she was forced to run a long distance to use the ‘’ colored people bathroom’’. the humiliation and injustice she had to faced at that particular moment made me emotional and perplexed given how she was treated, I wasamazed when said’ there is not colored bathroom in this building or outside the west campus is half a mile away, I have to walk to Timbuktu where the elsewhere convenience is situated just to relieve myself, I worked day and night like a dog ‘her strength and poise to speak out her mind by overcoming these obstacles she has faced was remarkable.
The themes and messages explored in hidden figures is the power of ability to overcome the challenges they faced. Themovie highlights the important aspect of gender determination. it reflect the individuals throughout history due to their races and skin colour. It made me realized the need to continue attributing for equality in society.
I am deeply connected to this character, considering how powerful the scenes in the movie portray, Mary Jackson need a permission from a judge to attend clasees, she asked the judge ‘out of all the classes which one will make you the first, no matter how frightening the challenge may seem, you should not be afraid to be the first, only make you the first in history books.Mary Jackson dream was to become an engineer, but mary was not attending the classes for requirement for the program. She was working in the same level. She did not share the title with the male counterparts. Her character depicts the gender issue of determination and journey break through into male field.
In conclusion, hidden figure left the impression of the remarkable achievement of the three women, that accomplisheda struggle of equality and recognition. this is is a reminder of progress to shape our society. It is quite an inspirational story of valuable lessons thought in history. Our protagonist is MaryJackson who rose to become NASA’s first African American aeronautical Engineer. Kathrine Johnson performs calculations for Apollo 11 mission to the moon and space shuttle. Dorothybecame NASA’s first African American supervisor, as a Fortranspecialist on electronic computing, she was regarded as one of the most brilliant minds at NASA’s.
